Jane Moore, our Librarian, honoured for her oustanding work with a Life Membership Award

On behalf of our school community we would like to congratulate Jane Moore on being presented with a Lifetime Membership Award from the School Libraries Association of South Australia, for her enduring and outstanding service to the SLASA and school library profession.
Jane has been an active member of SLASA, and has often spoken at conferences at a variety of regional and city venues.
She has also spent many years as a member of CBCA SA (The Children’s Book Council of Australia, South Australian Branch) and is presently the SA Director on the CBCA National Board and has been the Director of CBCA Merchandise for several years.
Throughout her career Jane has promoted the belief that school libraries and trained teacher librarians play an essential role in ensuring that students, from all backgrounds, are presented with opportunities to develop their literacy, curiosity & critical thinking skills.
She is deeply grateful for the years spent in this position and for the wonderful colleagues, students, and organisations who have supported and enriched her teaching journey.
Jane asked the school community to give feedback on ‘Why  a well funded and staffed school library is important’ and these are a few of the responses.

  • A library helps provide access to a diverse range of books, digital material and other resources that help promote reading and develop good reading habits. A library also provide resources and support to teachers to implement a wide range of curriculum areas. Val (teacher)

​Over the last few weeks we have had 2 student tastings. Using apples from our garden, we did apple slinky tastings and apple crumble tastings. 
 
Room 29 students topped up the garden beds with compost soil and although it was a smelly and dirty task, it was a popular activity. While this was happening, the rest of the apples were picked, a group did an audit of the activity boxes and green waste was taken to the green bin.

An amazing group of workers, all this was completed in just over half an hour!
 
Now that the beds have been topped up, we will be planting garlic, onions, herbs and other vegetables for a spring harvest. 
 
Don’t forget, if you would like to come and help in the garden, even if it is for an hour every so often, we would love to see you. Contact the front office or Sharon McAskill in Room 29. Anyone from our school community is welcome.

Have you coached an Ardtornish Primary School sports team in the past but are no longer in this role? If so, please make sure that you return any equipment or coaches folders to the front office. Then they can be distributed to the existing teams.

April is Autism Acceptance Month – a time to learn, understand and celebrate the diversity of our community.
 
 
Autism is a lifelong developmental difference that affects how a person thinks, feels, communicates and interacts with others. Every person with autism is unique and their experiences, strengths and challenges are all different. It’s important to remember that we don’t need to know if someone is autistic to show them kindness, respect and support. Rather than asking if someone is autistic, we focus on accepting and valuing everyone just as they are.
At Ardtornish Primary School, we are proud to promote inclusivity by accepting people for who they are and supporting them when they need help. Through understanding and compassion, we create a school environment where everyone feels safe, respected and included.
Together, we make our school a place where every student can shine.

​In Room 20, we have been having a lot of fun exploring the exciting world of patterns! We’ve been learning about what patterns are and how they repeat.
Students have been experimenting with creating their own patterns using colours, shapes, numbers and even sounds! As we dive deeper into our understanding, we’ve discovered that patterns are everywhere around us—whether in nature, in art, or in the things we see and use every day.
From the stripes on a zebra to the rhythm of a song, understanding patterns helps us make sense of the world and notice the beautiful designs that surround us. We can’t wait to keep discovering more!
