The SRC Executive: Our Student leadersJamieson, Arjun, Annabella, Chase, Sara, Mabel, Kai,
Georgia, Ekas, Sara, Emily, Rayeed The students who form the SRC Executive are important leaders in our school. They bring skills, talents, commitment and ideas to the task of promoting the voice of all students F - 6.
To become a member of the executive group, students in Year 6 write an application for the position. In their submission they present evidence to show that they have the qualities necessary to be effective representatives. The selected executive members are responsible for running SRC meetings three times a term, and planning and managing the SRC’s work. As a part of their SRC induction, members of the 2025 SRC Executive group completed a half day of leadership training. Mr Hansen and Mrs Hall had the group learn more about the roles and responsibilities of a leader and how, by working as an effective team, they could bring about positive change in the school. The group undertook a range of activities that allowed them to reflect on what good leadership looked like and then consider what changes they could initiate over the next 12 months to improve the physical, educational and social aspects of the school to build a strong school culture. One of the activities they undertook required them to work as a team to make a model of an animal or a piece of clothing from scrap materials in only 5 minutes. The results of this process are pictured above. After completing this challenge, they reflected on how well they had worked as a group and what skills they needed to employ to be successful. Besides the SRC executive, each classroom from year 2-6 sends a representative to attend the SRC meetings. The representatives chosen by the class are children who display positive leadership qualities and a willingness to contribute to the school and community. They share class views, present ideas and strategies to improve life and learning at Ardtornish and often raise funds to support charities and/or purchase equipment that students wish the school to possess. Student voice ensures that students have input into our school’s processes and procedures and experience how a democracy work. |

This incursion is a compulsory section of The Arts program in the school curriculum. If you are unable to pay for the incursion by the due date (Friday 21st February), please make arrangements with the finance officer for an extension of time. Dance Till You Drop is a Cultural Dance Program which is a structured 8 week program. The students participate in various dance styles from around the world, while also building on the basic fundamentals of dance including rhythm and coordination. Cost is $33.60 per student for the 8 week program. Payment can be made via QKR! For quite a few years we have been unable to access our school garden due to building works and COVID restrictions. Slowly but surely, the garden is returning to a place where children can play and learn about growing food.
We currently have an abundance of figs which are being turned into fruit leather and will be shared to all classes soon. This is an opportunity for children to step out of their comfort zone and try something new. We started this initiative last year and it proved to be very successful. Every newsletter we aim to share what’s been happening in our School Garden and share a few photos. Lastly, if any adults in our community would like to help in our garden, please contact the front office and they will pass on your details. This year, all Year 5 students had the incredible opportunity to attend a 3-day camp at Arbury Park.
Over the three days, we immersed ourselves in exciting and memorable activities:
We were also lucky enough to spot some amazing wildlife, including koalas, which made the experience even more special.
Along the way, we faced the challenge of being away from our families, worked together in teams, and made new friends, creating bonds that will last well beyond camp.
This was truly one of the most unforgettable experiences of the year, and we are so grateful for the chance to be a part of it.
Over the three days, we immersed ourselves in exciting and memorable activities:
- We practiced tying knots and built shelters as part of a fun ‘shipwreck’ challenge.
- We explored pond life, searching for tiny creatures and examining them under microscopes.
- Working in teams
- We learned about Aboriginal culture through face painting with ochre and discovered the wonders of bush tucker.
- We got creative with bush art, using natural materials to make amazing creations.
- We played an engaging ‘web of life’ game, teaching us about ecosystems and connections.
