SRC Forum: Building Respectful RelationshipsOn Tuesday, June 24, Arjun S, Kai W, Sara R, and Olive H-Z attended an Education Department student forum at Adelaide Oval with other SRC members from different schools. The forum focused on respectful relationships and how they connect to our school.
It was a great experience to learn and share ideas about respect and empathy with students from other schools. Together, we discussed how students’ daily behaviour can help create a more positive school environment and identified ways to strengthen school culture. One important message from the day was that respectful relationships are built on kindness, fairness, and understanding. For example, when friends or classmates are talking, it’s important to listen carefully to each other’s opinions — even when there are differences. It’s okay to disagree, as long as conversations stay respectful, and no one is made to feel uncomfortable. The forum also highlighted the importance of respecting personal space and feelings and supporting one another without trying to control or change who someone is. During a placemat activity, students shared ideas about how to disagree politely and show respect in different situations. It was interesting to compare thoughts with students from other schools and discover how similar many of our ideas were. A fun challenge involved organising over 300 students and teachers by birthdays — day and month. Although the room was loud and chaotic, teamwork and problem-solving helped get the order nearly correct. At the end of the forum, there was time to reflect on how these lessons could be brought back to Ardtornish. Some ideas included starting peer support groups and lunchtime spaces for respectful conversations to help everyone feel more included. The forum was a valuable opportunity to build confidence, meet new people, and learn how to be positive role models. It left us feeling ready to help make Ardtornish an even stronger, kinder, and more respectful school community. We look forward to sharing what we’ve learned with the rest of the SRC and seeing if some of these ideas can become a reality. Written by Arjun S and Kai W – Year 6 SRC Executives |

Our second Pedal Prix race of the season took place on June 13th at Victoria Park and what a day it was!
With sunny skies and dry conditions, the weather was a welcome contrast to our previous event, setting the perfect stage to debut our brand new trike. The team delivered a phenomenal performance, powering through 117 lightning fast laps over five hours and securing an outstanding 9th place finish out of 37 teams a record-breaking result for Ardtornish! What truly stood out was the incredible sense of camaraderie. The team has really come together, with both riders and support crew constantly cheering each other on, creating a supportive, fun, and uplifting atmosphere throughout the day. Looking ahead, our next challenge is an 8 hour endurance race at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park, The Bend, on August 2nd. With the strength, spirit, and determination of our team and the power of our new trike we’re ready to give it everything we’ve got! A heartfelt thank you to all our generous sponsors and to the school for all of their support - we couldn’t do it without you! |
Wearing the Correct School Uniform
It has come to our attention that an increasing number of students have been attending school in clothing that does not comply with our school uniform policy. This includes wearing black pants or black shorts, and multi coloured jackets or jumpers. All students are required to wear the correct uniform/dress code at all times Our school uniform consists of red t-shirt, red jumper, red school jacket, blue school hat, blue shorts / blue skirts / blue pants / blue skorts – with no stripes and logos. · Dress - blue & white (can have fine red line check) · Year 6 ONLY blue shirt and blue jacket · Shoes - plain sandals (summer); school shoes, sneakers, flat ankle boots. · No jewellery except for studs or sleepers or a watch (no smart watches) · No make-up / nail polish / fake nails. Students who were in a group photo should have received a letter in their school photo pack. If you would like to place an order you can go online to the MSP website via this link https://orders.msp.com.au/ordering/access and enter the shootkey. It will then list all the group photos that the child is in.
Please note: each student has an individual shootkey (even if there are 2 children in a family who had group photos, they both have a separate shootkey). Last day to order is -Saturday 6th July. Photos are now on display in the front office, come have a look! For our upcoming dance showcase we are looking for any donations so we can hold a raffle on the day. If anyone has any new items they are able to donate. i.e, Chocolate, tupperware, candles, beauty, sporting products, it would be greatly appreciated.
Please bring to the front office by 2pm Friday 4th July. Thank you |
This term, year 3 students in Room 28 and year 4 students in Room 29 have worked together during Design Technology lessons.
The Australian Curriculum achievement standard follows a two year program. Part of the achievement standard is that by the end of year 4, students will be able to select design ideas against design criteria and communicate design ideas using models and drawings including annotations and symbols.
Students made 3D pop-up cards, a pin wheel (a toy that moves) and their larger project was to create a boat with a mast from recycled materials that could hold an “Elsa” toy and sail across the pond (sink in the East building). Students researched and then drew their boat idea but many soon realised their idea would not work and had to change their design. After many failed testings, designs were changed/modified for the final sailing/test.
The project showed students that to achieve success, we have to often fail many times, change our way of thinking and try again.
