Students Employ their 3D Design Skills to Help Improve Safety on the Roads
As a part of the school’s technology program we are taught how to use the ‘Makers Empire 3D design software’ to create digital objects that are then physically produced using our 3D printers. Learning how to create original objects to solve real world problems provides us with opportunites to employ our developing skills in a practical manner.
In Term 3, students from Room 9/10 participated in an interschool event promoted and organised by ‘Makers Empire’ and the RAA Street Smart Program. The aim of the event was to encourage teams of students from different schools to design and 3D print something to help people in our community stay safe on our roads.
On the day, we brainstormed different problems that impacted the Ardtornish community. Room 9 focused on improving the safety of the ‘Kiss ‘n’ Drop’ area, and Room 10 focused on creating a solution to cross Lutyens Avenue more safely.
In groups, we created 3D models which were printed on 3D printers. We also worked through an online course which further developed our 3D design skills and included videos about road safety. Some students and staff even appeared in the RAA videos!
We planned in groups and developed ideas and designs to solve our problems. Some groups decided to produce keychains and some made mini models. All of them were spectacular!
On the 13th of September, Room 9/10 attended a ‘Makers Empire Showcase’ at Sfera’s to display our work. We each had a booth and shared our projects with four other schools. We were able to showcase our amazing designs and see what other students had created.
It was really interesting to see other people's ideas and solutions. We are so grateful we had the opportunity to participate in the project.

Maintaining and Developing Student e-safety
The majority of our students at Ardtornish are responsible and respectful users of the internet. However it has come to the attention of leadership that during the recent school holidays, there have been a few cases of cyber-bullying. This included unauthorised use of students' photos on social media, posting of untrue content about students and the creation of fake social media accounts using other student’s details.
Classroom e-safety lessons are a part of our child protection curriculum. It is important that the school and home work in partnership to keep children safe online, so we would encourage all parents to stay up to date with online safety news and resources.
The eSafety Commission encourages parents to bookmark the eSafety website https://www.esafety.gov.au and The eSafety Guide, https://www.esafety.gov.au/key-topics/esafety-guide as well as subscribing to their newsletter. link for reporting cyber bullying https://www.esafety.gov.au/key-topics/cyberbullying/report-cyberbullying
If you have any concerns, you can go to the eSafety Commissioner or SAPOL for advice.

In Room 27, we have been exploring self-portraits as a way to develop our fine motor skills. This activity not only enhances our artistic abilities but also helps us become more aware of ourselves and recognize the unique qualities that each of us have.
Through this process, we are learning to appreciate our differences and express our individuality in creative ways.
