Olivia Saavas Teaches Year 5’s and 6’s
On Friday the 29th of November, our local MP Olivia Savvas came to speak to the year 5 and 6 classes. She taught us about how Government works, gave us a history lesson and spoke about her journey to becoming a politician. Oliva was engaging and full of energy as she spoke. She brought a range of props and students volunteered to act out some funny traditions. Olivia also brought a special kit to demonstrate what Parliament house looks like, inside and out. Students were invited to ask questions at the end. She encouraged students to aim high and to make a difference. We are so grateful for the chance to learn from Olivia, especially at this busy time of year. |

Our school was fortunate to participate in a free girls’ cricket program, expertly delivered by the coaching staff from SACA. This program, which usually involves a fee, was secured and organized by our PE Coordinator, Dan Gehling, giving our students an incredible opportunity to develop their cricket skills and game sense, during school hours at no cost. Emma D from Room 26 said “When I first found out about it, I was really excited cause I really like cricket and I need to learn more skills.”
Over the four-week program, the girls engaged in a variety of activities designed to develop key cricketing skills such as batting, catching, throwing, and bowling. Each session was filled with energy and enthusiasm, focusing on participation, fun, and teamwork.
In the final week, the program concluded with an exciting game where everyone had a chance to shine. Each girl showcased their batting and bowling skills in a friendly and supportive match, highlighting how much they had learned and grown throughout the program. When asked about the last week, Kiara P from Room 26 said “It was fun when all of us were playing cricket together because we got to bat, bowl and run.”
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dan Gehling for organizing this fantastic program and to SACA for delivering such an enriching experience. Saige A from Room 27 said “I think the best thing about cricket is that you get to get all your energy out, get some sunshine, move around, and have fun!” The smiles on the girls' faces and the laughter on the field were a testament to how much they enjoyed this unique opportunity.
Aubrey N from Room 27 said “It was fun giving cricket a go because it means that you can try something new and see if you want to play it when you’re older.” We look forward to continuing to inspire our students to embrace and enjoy sports like cricket in the future.
