Education Minister, John Gardner, officially unveils the ‘High speed school internet rollout program.’

A landmark project to connect almost every government school in SA to a world class high speed fibre optic internet connection by mid-2020 was off to a flying start, when on Wednesday our school became the 37th to be officially switched on. The connection at our school is a part of a state-wide rollout, which was announced by the Government in December 2018, and our students and educators now have access to high speed, reliable internet at the speed they need, when they need it. We are moving from a painfully slow download speed of 35 Mb a second and upload speed of 1 Mb a second to a service that gives us both download and unload speeds of 200Mb a second. The Education Minister, John Gardner, chose our school for the launch because of our commitment to using digital technology to enhance students learning. In press release he said. “I’m delighted to officially unveil the connection today which quite literally opens up a world of learning resources and opportunities to the staff and students at Ardtornish Primary School.” “Fast, reliable internet helps our educators access the tools they need to deliver world class education and gives students the chance to connect, collaborate and create in ways that will be the hallmarks of the modern workplace.” Teachers at our school are looking forward to using the upgraded speeds to maximise the learning experience. Steve Whitehead our ICT coordinator was quoted as saying “The upgraded internet connection substantially increases the learning content we can access and use in the classroom and opens up a world of opportunity to connect and collaborate with learning facilities around the globe. Our new connection will enable the use of Chromebooks from Yrs 4/5 – 7 to operate more reliably as we further explore how online tools can bring learning concepts to life. The possibilities are endless.” The Minister spoke with students at the school about their use of technology and was impressed by what we have already achieved in respect to digital learning. At Ardtornish we are committed to using technology to enhance communication and learning. Parents can ensure they stay fully informed about school events by downloading the Skoolbag App so they get direct notifications. Instructions for doing this are on the front page of our school website. If you need assistance to put his app on your devices, simply contact our front office and we will arrange support. |

On Mondays we did patterning and measurement with Mrs Long.
