Cyber Safety training focus, as Chromebook use extended to Year 4 studentsThis year, the use of Chromebooks as a 1:1 device has been extended to include students in Year 4. When training these students there is a central focus placed on developing their understanding of how to use them in a cyber-safe and responsible manner, in line with our school’s Chromebook agreement.
At Ardtornish, we purposefully selected Chromebooks for our “one on one device” program because their operating system can be configured and managed by the school to maximise cyber safety. All students who log into their Chromebook at school, using their allocated ARDPS account, can experience safer browsing because the Department for Education filters automatically block inappropriate content within our school internet environment. While these same Department filters do not apply when a student uses their home internet, we have placed configurations and restrictions on each ARDPS account to allow us to investigate cyber issues involving the use of their Chromebook. However, the use of self-created Google accounts on the Chromebooks can negate these configurations and leave a student with an unmanaged and unrestricted internet portal. The School’s ICT Team also regularly review how the Chromebooks are being used and continually monitor our network, for instances of cyber bullying, misuse or attempts to access inappropriate websites. If you, as a parent, ever have any concerns about how devices and software are being used, or become aware of any inappropriate behaviours related to their use, please promptly contact the school for advice and support. A simple thing that all parents can do, to keep their children safer and happier on line, is to only allow them to access appropriate social media sites in line with the recommended age restrictions shown on the accompanying chart. We implore all families to be vigilant regarding how their children are using the internet. Where possible, only let them use the school ARDPS account and ensure online activity occurs in an open and visually accessible space within the home. Steve Whitehead – ICT Coordinator. |
REMINDER FOR PARKING NEAR THE SCHOOLPlease be considerate of resident's properties when dropping off and picking up your child. There is a fine for parking illegally.
Before contacting the school, take a moment to choose the best communication option by asking yourself…The Ardtornish Skoolbag App is used to communicate alerts and information about events to parents so please install and use these apps – on request, we can help you set them up.
Because every staff member’s No 1 priority is teaching, online communication (email, texts) are commonly only checked at the end of the day, with a commitment to respond within 2 business days. Advanced notice of Annual General Meeting
Our Annual General Meeting will now occur at 7:00 pm on Tuesday 15th March Closer to the date we will inform you if it will be a purely online meeting or an online and face to face meeting held at the school. A form will be sent to you soon through the Skoolbag App inviting you to nominate for a position on the Governing Council. We have three positions to fill and your membership would be greatly appreciated. |
Room 9/10 Makeover
The school holidays were a hub of activity in Room 9 and 10 with Mrs Bradshaw and Mrs McCurry spend many, many days covered in paint and mess! There were pin up boards taken down, interactive boards replaced, walls scraped, repaired and painted. It was tough going however, the makeover was worth it! We decided on white with a few splashes of pink and purple.
The outdoor area was also revamped into a mini outdoor garden! Even the crossing monitor supplies have moved in and are complete with proper hooks. We are so excited with the way it turned out. Here are some photos of our wonderful learning space.
