The SRC Executive: Our Student Leaders

Picture
The ten students who form the SRC Executive are important leaders in our school. They bring skills, talents, commitment and ideas to the task of promoting the voice of all students F-6.
To become a member of the executive group, students in Year 6 write an application for the position. In their submission they must present evidence to show that they have the qualities necessary to be effective representatives. The selected executive members are responsible for running SRC meetings three times a term, and planning and managing the SRC’s work.
Classroom representatives are elected to attend the SRC meetings by their classmates because they display positive leadership qualities and a willingness to contribute to the school and community. They share class views, present ideas and strategies to improve life and learning at Ardtornish and often raise funds to support charities and buy equipment that students wish the school to posess. Student voice ensures that students have input into our school’s processes and procedures and experience how a democracy work.

Jane Moore, honoured for her contibutions to The Children’s Book Council of Australia.

Congratulations to Jane Moore, our teacher librarian, on being awarded a lifelong membership to The Children’s Book Council of Australia, South Australian Branch for her significant contribution to CBCA over many years The CBCA’s purpose is to enrich students lives through Australian stories. Jane is the SA Director on the CBCA board and a member of the CBCA SA committee.
Her involvement with the CBCA enables her to  use her knowledge of literature to teach high level literacy and reading skills and keep students and teachers informed about which great books to read and enjoy. Developing a love of books, and a commitment to reading is an important part of a student’s reading development.
Having a trained teacher librarian and library staff in our school ensures students have access to high quality books and resources which positively impacts on their academic success.
