Redevelopment Update
Concept designs have now been released for our $5 million upgrade. The project will deliver a new permanent modular building with connections to the oval and nature play spaces and will include: ✅ New general learning areas and Music Room ✅ Breakout space with wet areas ✅New storage spaces ✅ New student and disability access toilets ✅ New teacher preparation and withdrawal areas. We will be moving out of the existing transportable buildings towards the end of Term 3 and classes will be temporarily relocated to portable building placed on the JP Oval. Once this occurs all the old buildings and the toilet block will be demolished. The new building will be ready for occupancy at the end of March 2021. An exciting new nature play area will be established between the existing and new buildings. A dedicated Music Room and new toilets will be welcomed by everyone. Teaching areas will look out to a breakout area where students can undertake art lessons and other shared activities and each pair of rooms will be connected by sliding glass doors to increase the opportunities for classes to interact. Verandas all around the building will provide plenty of shade in summer and shelter in winter. |
Important Safety Reminder
Teachers begin morning yard duty at 8.35am, so children for their safety should not be on school grounds before this time. Once primary students have dropped their bags at their classroom they should go to the primary yard/playground. Junior primary students should go to the JP playground, unless their teacher asks them to enter their classroom. Any children arriving a little earlier than 8.35am, must wait in the courtyard until the bell sounds. Staff will be contacting parents of children who arrive well before the 8.35am bell, to support them in making other arrangements. School Photos - Wednesday 10th June
Mindful of the current situation and in consultation with your school, MSP Photography have instigated a new process for the taking of school photos this year. This new process has been designed in accordance with the most recent guidelines currently issued by the relevant Health Authorities, which are being monitored daily. Having access to current student photographs is very important for schools and teachers. These images play a vital role in assisting school staff in areas such as student security, health & identification. These images are used within schools in areas such as
This year, current recommendations would suggest the most appropriate format for school photos will be a composite style. Each student will be photographed individually, with the group created digitally as a composite. This will eliminate the need for students to be grouped together in close contact with either themselves, or our staff.
Family photos will also be taken (there will be no group – sporting/dance photos) Additional Protocols Include:
Volunteer RAN Training Sessions
This term we are offering online sessions for RAN Training. It is important to have this certificate ready for when things go back to normal and we are allowed to have volunteer’s onsite and excursions/camps are happening once again. If you would like to help out in your child’s classroom with transport, camps, in the library or canteen etc. you need to have a child related police clearance (working with children check for volunteers) and be RAN trained. Child related police clearance forms are available from the front office. This is a Department for Education requirement. It is mandatory to have a RAN Certificate as part of becoming a volunteer. You only ever need to attend once unless there is a change to the course, which you will then be notified about. RAN stands for Responding to Abuse and Neglect. The RAN training for volunteer’s induction session outlines for volunteers their child protection responsibilities and provides guidelines on protective practices. You will receive a RAN Certificate after completing this training session. These sessions are run each term and are advertised in the newsletter and Google+. If you are interested please phone the office on 8264 8099 or text us on 0447 467152 and we will send you the link to complete this course. Online this course runs for approx. 1 hour - 1.5 hours. Once completed please email your certificate to [email protected]. |
Hi, here is an update from the Ardtornish Children's Centre update - realising this may change.
The Ardtornish Kindy is open, and Family and Community programs are not being programmed yet. Occasional Care, parenting courses and playgroups will resume when appropriate. We will notify all as soon as the situation changes. I am still working from home and remain available to work with families with young children that need additional support or resources. Please contact me on Facebook, call or email if you need. Kidspot and SA Health have joined forces to help parents find the right words when explaining COVID-19 to little ones Children are naturally curious and look to their parents and carers for answers to questions about the world around them. It’s hard to find that delicate balance of wanting to be truthful, while not scaring our kids when they ask questions about the pandemic. ℹ️Check out this article, where Professor Nicola Spurrier answers pandemic-related questions submitted by kids ages 5-11: https://bit.ly/35CWfY
Children who turn 4 before 1 May, can start preschool at the beginning of the year. If your child turns 4 on or after 1 May, they can start the next year. Families are encouraged to register an expression of interest for their child at Ardtornish Kindergarten in 2021. Call Heather on 8264 9828.

Students and staff have been coming together this term to learn a whole school song and dance titled ‘Better When I’m Dancing’.
We started learning this dance on April 29th, International Dance Day, as a way to lift morale and come together in this unprecedented start to term 2.
We initially decided to film our dance and send it to students learning from home to help lift their spirits and feel connected with their peers. However, with circumstances changing so quickly we were able to get almost the whole school involved in this fantastic event!
It has been a great way to connect with our peers across the school and come together to achieve a common goal.
We are doing really well and are excited to show off the end product! Stay tuned!
