Moving into the New Building

Picture
Finally, the date of the big move has been set and, starting in the holidays, staff will be assisting removalists to transfer furniture and materials to the new building, ready to begin Term 3 in well organised rooms. The ‘school closure,’ on the first day of term, will provide teachers with additional time, besides what they spend during their holidays, to set up their rooms and ensure a smooth start to teaching and learning.

The timing of our occupancy, has been dependent on when the landscaping around the buildings could be completed to a level that would allow us to make the move in a safe manner. At present the surroundings are a quagmire and, although the interior of the building is completed, access to it is very difficult, due to a nature play area being constructed between the new and existing buildings and asphalt and paving still not having been laid.
Everyone is excited about the move, as it has been a long wait. Initially the redevelopment was to be completed by March of 2022 but due to Covid-19, shortages of building materials, and other factors, it is occurring 16 months later.

Pedal Prix

On Friday 17th June the Pedal Prix team raced at Victoria Park, Adelaide in a 6 hour race. This was our 2nd race of the season. We had raced at The Bend Motorsport Park in May. Our team is made up of year 5 & 6 students Cody S, Lucas D, Emily S, Tate W, Samuel H, Eli C, Zak S, Ethan B, Jacob L & Cooper V. We rode with only 33 other Primary School bikes making it a quiet race as we would normally ride with around 150 other bikes. Although we didn’t place very high, at the end of the race, all of our riders put in a huge amount of effort and worked hard to beat their own personal best lap times. It is great to see our team work together, achieve things they didn’t think they could, and cheer and encourage each other on. Our riders should all be very proud of themselves! It was great to have Deb visit us to watch the race and see us finish. A big thank you to all our parents who helped out on the day. Without your efforts we would not have made the day a success. Our next race is on Sat 6th August at The Bend Motorsport Park. Anyone from the school community is very welcome to come and watch the 8 hour race.

Help! - From the Canteen

The canteen is in urgent need of volunteers on Thursday’s and Friday’s. If you have some time to spare on either of these days, be it once a month, fortnightly or even once per term, please consider putting your hand up.

The students love seeing their family serving behind the counter. It is also a good way to meet teachers who pass by, familiarize yourself with the school schedule and even meet your child’s friends.

The canteen provides a service to the school community and can only function successfully with the support of volunteers.

Thankyou to all the Mums and Grandmas who give up their time to help with recess and lunch in the canteen, it is very much appreciated

Please contact Michele in the canteen on 82648099 Tuesday-Friday 9am – 2pm if you are interested.

To volunteer - a working with children check (police clearance) and a RRHAN-EC Certificate is required, if you do not have these we can help you get them, it’s very easy!

If your child is unwell they should be at home

When students are unwell, they need to stay away from school and it is preferred they have a PCR test. RAT tests aren’t always accurate. Lately many students are being sent to school unwell and we are having to ring the parent early in the morning to have them picked up.

Absences and Exemption

If your child is going to be away for longer than three days whether it be holiday/illness/family reasons an exemption form needs to be completed (available from the front office).

Remember: If your child is away unexpectedly e.g. sick please ring 8264 8099 and press 1 to leave an absence message or text 0447 467 152 to let the office know. Also remember to say your child’s name, class and reason.

Kindergarten Enrolments for 2023
In South Australia, 'preschool' and 'kindergarten' are the same. Children are entitled to one year of preschool. Children are entitled to access 4 terms (1 year) of government preschool in the year before they start school.
Picture

From 2023 children who turn 4 years old:
  • before 1 May are eligible to start preschool at the beginning of the year.
  • on 1 May to 31 October can commence preschool through the mid-year intake at the start of term 3 of that year.

All children will have 4 terms of preschool. Children who turn 4 years after 31 October will be eligible to commence preschool at the start of the following year.

If you’re uncertain about the best time for your child to attend preschool or feel your child may benefit from starting preschool later, talk to Heather at Ardtornish Kindergarten or your local preschool director about your options.

Room 5B’s Swimming Week

This week Room 5B has enjoyed going to The ARC to learn more about water safety. We have also been improving our swimming skills and slowly becoming better with practice. We have also learnt about how to put on a life jacket correctly both in and out of the pool. We have also learnt what equipment can be used as a floatation device and what equipment can be used to rescue someone in the water while keeping ourselves safe at the same time.
