Enterprise Day: Enjoyable, Exciting & EducationalOn Friday of Week 8 the gym was full of excited voices as all students from R-6 had an opportunity to purchase food and participate in sideshow type activities as a part of an Enterprise Day run by students in year 6.
Enterprise day is the culminating activity of a year 6 unit of work called, ‘At What Cost?’ which is a part of the subject, ‘Business and Economics.’ While working in teams to design their own businesses, Year 6, students had to identify the purpose of their own business and recognise the different ways that businesses in the real world choose to provide goods and services. When planning their businesses, the students discussed and debated the advantages and disadvantages of the stall they wanted to create and applied economics and business knowledge and skills to predict the profit they might make. They created advertising posters, developed spreadsheets, to track their expenditure and researched the cost of the materials they would need to purchase to produce their products or services. On Enterprise day their potential customers were confronted by a wide range choice as they poured through the gym doors. Would they buy a cake, play a game of chance, participate in a game of challenge or buy a product? Buddy classes from across the school were rostered in to visited the gym over the whole day and everyone had a great deal of fun. All business teams started out with a $20 loan, which they needed to repay. Teams then researched and created a business that they hoped would be both popular and profitable to run. Some teams doubled their money, while others made over a $100 profit from their initial investment. Each team then had to choose a charity to which they would donate their profits. Just over $1000 profit was made! What a fantastic effort! On the 15th of June, Room 9/10 and 11 hopped on the bus ready to head to camp!
We even had 2 students that came to camp on their birthday, Matisse and Tania. Happy Birthday!
We played football in the skills zone
We went on the trampolines and tested their acrobatic skills
Tested our team work and did an obstacle course on the inflatables
We did rock climbing and almost everyone overcame their fear and climbed as high as they could
We ate lots of food, had some snacks, watched a movie and kept the teachers awake!
We were all very grateful that our parents and teachers gave us this opportunity to go on a camp!
