We’re in and it’s Fantastic

Finally we are in the new buildings and enjoying the ease of working in an environment that is modern and well designed. The move had a few teething problems, such as plumbing issues in the boys toilets,  but defects we discover are being quickly rectified.
Teachers and SSO staff dedicated a great deal of their time during the holidays to setting up rooms for a smooth start to the term and so students were greeted by well organised learning environments. One of the best design elements of the building is the direct access to rooms from the yard so when the landscaping is finished students won’t have to rely on using the central corridor. This means that student movement will be quiet and nondisruptive of others.  The new buildings house all students in the early years from R-3 and this arrangement makes the organisation of students during ‘Read Write Inc” sessions easier to manage and control. The advanced lighting, cooling and security systems makes life in the buildings much more pleasant.
The design of classrooms, allows teachers to teach individually or together by opening up the glass doors that separate each pair of rooms. Sound systems are also included to assist everyone to hear clearly.
The landscaping is continuing and hopefully it will be completed in the next two weeks. New lawn will be planted leading down to the oval and this area will obviously be roped off for quite a long time while we wait for the grass to establish its self.

Help! - From the Canteen

The canteen is in urgent need of volunteers on Thursday’s and Friday’s. If you have some time to spare on either of these days, be it once a month, fortnightly or even once per term, please consider putting your hand up.

The students love seeing their family serving behind the counter. It is also a good way to meet teachers who pass by, familiarize yourself with the school schedule and even meet your child’s friends.

The canteen provides a service to the school community and can only function successfully with the support of volunteers.

Thankyou to all the Mums and Grandmas who give up their time to help with recess and lunch in the canteen, it is very much appreciated

Please contact Michele in the canteen on 82648099 Tuesday-Friday 9am – 2pm if you are interested.

To volunteer - a working with children check (police clearance) and a RRHAN-EC Certificate is required, if you do not have these we can help you get them, it’s very easy!

Swimming - Role of Parents
The DfE swimming and aquatics program is a curriculum based program and as such the direct relationship is between the instructors and the school. Where a parent attends in a private capacity they can assist the instructors by observing the following guidelines
  • Parents are asked not to communicate with the instructor or any child during the lesson. Direct communication in this way does distract and can impact on the safety of the class.
  • Parents contact the school or school representative on site, if they require any further information about the program or their child’s involvement in the program.
  • Please do not purchase food at the swimming centre for your child.
Thanks for your support

Kindergarten Enrolments for 2023
In South Australia, 'preschool' and 'kindergarten' are the same. Children are entitled to one year of preschool. Children are entitled to access 4 terms (1 year) of government preschool in the year before they start school.

From 2023 children who turn 4 years old:
  • before 1 May are eligible to start preschool at the beginning of the year.
  • on 1 May to 31 October can commence preschool through the mid-year intake at the
start of term 3 of that year.

All children will have 4 terms of preschool. Children who turn 4 years after 31 October will be eligible to commence preschool at the start of the following year.
If you’re uncertain about the best time for your child to attend preschool or feel your child may benefit from starting preschool later, talk to Heather at Ardtornish Kindergarten or your local preschool director about your options.

Last term, our class participated in a PE program run by year 12 students from SEDA College. We did two sports rotations, soccer and basketball, both lasting four weeks. Working in small groups, the SEDA students developed their coaching skills and provided us with drills and game scenarios. We developed our skills and knowledge in both sports, and enjoyed interacting with new people.
