Acknowledging our Outstanding School Support Staff

This week we formally recognised the wonderful contribution School Support Staff make to our school community. It is a time to celebrate their vital and skilled work in supporting staff and students. Support Staff undertake a wide range of roles in our school, focussed either around administration or curriculum support.

As admin support officers they help to coordinate, plan and run a wide range of school functions e.g. looking after student medications, diabetes management, the grounds, organising special functions, monitoring facilities, tracking our finances, managing our canteen and much, much more, the list is endless.

Curriculum support includes keeping our library functioning well, managing our ICT network, running the canteen, providing special needs support and working with large and small groups of students as well as providing one on one tutoring for others. The skills dedication and energy that our Support Staff bring to their work in assisting student learning and wellbeing makes a significant difference to student achievement.

Best of all, support staff at Ardtornish work as a collaborative team sharing roles and generously stepping into support each other and staff as the need arises. On behalf of the whole school community we would like to express the appreciation we have for each and everyone of them.  Mark & Deb.  Absent Rachael Speck – Library, Sallie Rogers and Bonnie Zito – Classroom Support

Students who were in a group photo should have received a letter like the one below in their school photo pack .
If you would like to place an order you can go online to the MSP website via this link https://orders.msp.com.au/ordering/access and enter the shootkey , which will then list all the group photos that the child  is in. Please note: each student in group photos have individual  shootkeys (even if there is 2 children in a family who had group photos , they both have a separate shootkey).   Please contact the front office if you need more information.

Helpful Tips for Parking around schools
  • Allow enough time to take the child to the school gate safely without rushing.
  • Always observe parking signs and speed limits in and around school zones. They are designed to keep children safe.
  • Talk about signs and traffic lights with your child. Identify and discuss places where it is safe to get in and out of the car.
  • Teach your child how to cross the road using the ‘stop, look and listen’ process - stop at the kerb, look and listen for the traffic and then decide whether it is safe to cross.
Park a few streets away and walk your child to school. This is also good exercise and helps teach your child road safety rules

Note – Council officers patrol school parking in the morning and afternoon during school terms. Kiss and Drop is the area at the front of the school that you can drop your child off safely and quickly. The intention is that drivers do not wait in these zones and that they stay in their vehicle so queues are minimised.
Never leave children in a vehicle unattended

From weeks 3 to 7 this term, we have been lucky enough to have the Emmy and Friends program be implemented in our classroom by Ms Nicole. This program is also being taught across the Foundation and Year 1 classrooms.

The program helps us to understand our feelings, early warning signs, safe and unsafe situations or secrets and public and private body parts – all vitally important components of the Child Protection Curriculum.

‘I like learning to be safe with Emmy’ - Quinn
‘It’s so much fun learning with Ms Nicole’ – Dottie
‘I liked putting the early warning signs on Emmy’ – Ashton
‘You learn to ‘Tell, tell and tell again until someone listens and helps’ – Ben
