Choir Festival Theatre Performance

Picture
Last Friday night Friday 13th September, the Ardtornish choir participated in the iconic Festival of Music at the Festival Theatre. Our students were awesome!  Their pre-show behaviour, while lining up and waiting was exemplary and I was a very proud choir teacher.
The concert itself was stunning! From a kabuki curtain drop (google it!), to a fabulous jazz band it was action packed.  Our students sang their hearts out, grooved in the upbeat songs and were respectful when singing about our sister city Christchurch. I am also very excited to have Kendra sing a solo in ‘When I Grow up’ in tonight's concert (Friday 20th).  Anne O’Dea

Parliament House Excursion – Civics and Citizenship in Action

Government and democracy are two of the main concepts within Civics and Citizenship for year 6 and 7 students. Visiting South Australia’s Parliament House gave students a hands on experience to see government and democracy in action.
On Tuesday, Dr Richard Harvey, our local MP for Newland, provided our room 9/10 students with a detailed presentation about the separation of powers within the Australian Government along with an informative tour of the two houses of parliament. Students had the opportunity to dress up in parliamentary clothing and hold a real debate to see how decision making works in the lower house - The House of Assembly.
Student Quotes:
“It was really interesting to see how parliament works” Corvin T
“It was an interesting and fun experience. I learnt a lot about Parliament, I liked the Green Room better because it had the Blood Line to stop people being stabbed by swords!” Maddi L
“It was interesting to learn about the Black Rod in the Upper House” Josh G
“It was educational for both teachers and students. Dr Harvey made it a fun visit.” Kendra H

Canteen News
Thank you to all the families who continue to support the canteen.  We had a wonderful response to our call for volunteers.
As you all know the canteen has replaced all of our packaging with products that are compostable and have less impact on the environment.  Unfortunately these items are more costly and so after carrying that cost, the canteen now has to pass on part of those costs to our customers.
Some of our items have increased in price and some have been replaced with choices that are lighter for the hot weather.
Please encourage your children to give different items a go, they may be pleasantly surprised. The new menu for summer will be available from week 2 of term 4.
The Ardtornish School is only able to continue offering this service because of all your support and we look forward to seeing you all back and raring to go in term 4.
