Aladdin will be Amazing
Dress rehearsals are now in full swing as we prepare for our three public performances in Week 2. Students have learned their lines, dance routines and songs and are ready to entertain you. Limited tickets are still available on QKR! We are hoping as many of the school community as possible can come and enjoy this amazing performance.
Change of School times in 2020 with a 3:00 pm finish In 2020 the school will be adjusting its hours of operation so the school day ends at 3:00 p.m. Our starting time will remain the same, at 8:50 a.m. but the day will finish 15 minutes earlier. This change will bring us into alignment with other local schools and ensure that teachers are on duty for the correct times specified in their industrial award. For the past 10 years teachers at Ardtornish have been generously working an extra 15 minutes a day and a recent review of our school times highlighted this discrepancy that needs to be addressed. Class Placement Process for 2020 This term we commence the complex process of establishing classes for 2020. This week you should have received a note regarding parent and student input into class placements for 2020. This form needs to be returned to the office by no later than Wednesday 23rd October. LATE FORM INFORMATION MAY NOT BE ABLE TO BE CONSIDERED. Accurate enrolment numbers are needed so we can determine the configuration of year level classes. Therefore if your family is considering moving, it is important that you let us know, as well as your new school, as soon as possible. Even if your plans are still tentative, letting the front office know will allow us to plan a range of contingencies. Please inform your child’s class teacher or the front office by email [email protected] or a phone call 8264 8099 or text message to 0447 467 152. |

Room 24 have had such a busy year! Learning is definitely more successful (and fun!) when students have experiences and hands-on activities to remember. This year, we have had a camp at Narnu Farm, a National Motor Museum Hawker Vans incursion and pottery classes with Mrs Woolley for starters. In the classroom, we have done some fantastic origami to explore 3D shapes for Maths, amazing art activities focusing on themes like ocean and marine life, space and our State’s official bird – The Piping Shrike.
The students are currently working towards completing books for publishing that will be displayed in the school library. This has been a big effort by the children because it has required them to plan, write, edit and re-write their stories to polish them ready for publishing!
Whenever we are able, we take the classroom learning outside. For Aboriginal cultures and Maths we went out to the oval and measured out a 60 metre string timeline. “Why?” you ask. Well, a 60 metre string line is 60 000 millimetres, this represents 1 millimetre for approximately every year Aboriginal culture has existed in Australia. The children placed flags along the string timeline to show where they thought non-Aboriginal people came to Australia. Zak correctly placed his flag at the 20 centimetre mark.
That’s right 20 centimetres out of a very long 60 metre timeline. It was great to see and hear the children think about and discuss this visual representation.
Whew!
So, with only a few weeks until the end of Term 4, I think you’ll agree the children should be proud of themselves for bringing their energy and creativity to the work inside and outside the classroom.
Lisa and Dale.
