Aladdin, a Production of which to be ProudBarry Hill, a theatrical reviewer for two Australia-wide web sites watched our production from our VIP section. He wrote a very detailed review. Here are a few paragraphs from it.
Last night I was fortunate to attend the Ardtornish Primary end of year production of Aladdin. As a newcomer to their shows I was unsure what to expect. I needn’t have been as the production was highly enjoyable as was evidenced by the enthusiastic audience response throughout the show. With so many students involved it would be unfair to single out any particular performer however there are many memorable scenes. My favourites were – the cast stepping off the stage to involve the audience (with yours truly singled out), the Genie’s song and dance with the cast (and a carpet that never gave up, providing lots of action at the front), the star scene, and of course, everyone’s favourite, the underwater scene featuring the romance of the shark family to the backing track of ‘Baby Shark’ which had us all in hysterics! This show had been rehearsed since Term 1 and the director/producers are to be commended, Jane Moore, Sharon McAskill, Victoria Matthews, Liz Bagley, David McAskill and Steve Whitehead. Needless to say, the audience (and this reviewer) were highly entertained and the students received well deserved enthusiastic applause at the conclusion of the evening. As a reviewer, actor and director it is gratifying to see that the skills of theatre are not being forgotten. The future of theatre is safe with students with such dedication and enthusiasm as the cast of Aladdin! What a glowing review! Congratulations to students of Rooms 8, 11, 19 and 20. Aladdin merchandise will be on sale in the garden area at our annual fete on Saturday. You can also buy tickets there for our Aladdin raffle, valued at over $150. The prize is a Genie Build a Bear, an Aladdin Book, a Magic Lamp and a 3D printed Genie. Tickets are 3 for $5 or $2 each. The tickets can be bought at the office until Week 6 when it will be drawn at the assembly. ……………………………………………………………………. Ardtornish Dance Sports Nationals 2019
This year five Ardtornish teams travelled to Queensland to participate in the national finals of the DanceStar, 100% Cheer and School Aerobics competitions. Every team performed admirably over the course of the middle of August weekend.
Our future legends (All-stars), middle primary (Diamond Squad) and senior (Shooting Stars) cheer teams competed on the Friday against some very skilled competition. Each team took to the stage with big smiles on their faces and did their very best. They looked amazing with their new uniforms and pom poms. Unfortunately, no cheer medals were won this year.
On Saturday afternoon we had our open aerobics trio, Hasta Luego, took to the stage. All three girls had worked very hard this year to learn a highly technical routine with many strength-based skills, including tricep push ups on their toes! There were many nerves beforehand, but you wouldn’t have known once they were up there. They performed strongly and were awarded a bronze medal for their efforts (only 1 point off silver!) Well done girls.
Lastly, our primary theatrical dance team performed on Sunday afternoon. Again, competition was of a very high standard and we were just happy to be in the mix. Our girls danced strongly in their sports day themed dance and were awarded a silver medal. This is even more impressive as one of the performers sprained her ankle 30 seconds into the routine and continued to dance until the end.
This has been our most successful year yet and we just wanted to say well done to all competitors who performed over the weekend with such enthusiasm and commitment to their team. You should all be very proud of yourselves, our teams and our school. Thank you to our super coach Shanisse who travelled up on her own time to support our kids and thank you to parents who were able to rearrange work, life and their finances to make this happen for the children.
We would also like to extend a very special thank you to all the school staff who support this programme. In particular, Michele Kraniac and Cathie Ettridge for all of the finance and administration assistance.
