Joyful Jungle Book PerformancesYear 2/3/4 students from Rooms 19/20/21 performed the Jungle Book last Tuesday and Wednesday night to many enthralled family members. Auditions in early Term 1 lead to the selection of lead performers. Some of these roles were split so that more students had the opportunity to experience the challenge of learning a longer script. Weekly rehearsal periods enabled the whole cast to practice their lines and dance moves. Students who chose not to perform were assigned backstage roles and worked on developing sound effects, organising music, helping with staging and controlling the use of microphones.
Performances such as this are only possible with the support and dedication of staff who go ‘above and beyond’ expectations to provide students with a unique educational experience. Therefore, on behalf of all the students and parents involved we would like to give special thanks to Jane Moore, Sharon McAskill, Tori Matthews and Sarah Campbell for their dedication and commitment. We value the Arts at Ardtornish and on Thursday the whole school came together to perform a sensational stick percussion event and enjoy a fantastic dance assembly! The talent, creativity and commitment of our staff and students continues to impress as The Arts shine at APS! |
To be chosen to represent the Tea Tree Gully district at a Sapsasa event means that you are among the best players amongst year 6 and 7 students at 20 district schools. In week 4, 6 Ardtornish students had this opportunity in the School Sport SA state Softball Carnival. Lily H, Shaelee H, Ruby R-B, Tierra T, Noah R and Kai G played against other district teams at West Beach.
The Boys team started strong with one win and one loss on the first day. They had a tough mid-week, not scoring any wins but were able to bounce back to take 2 wins on the second to last day and a very strong game on the final day. They're resilience and determination meant they actually finished equal second for the carnival. The girl’s team won all but one of their games and finished outright second in the entire competition. They played with strength, determination and concentration to achieve great results against very strong teams. |
We are holding a music concert for Festival Choir and selected instrumentalists on Wednesday 25th November in the school gym. There will be 2 performances, 1:30pm and 6:30pm.
Due to COVID rules, a maximum of 250 people can be in the gym at any one time. Families of performers can purchase a maximum of 3 tickets to each concert. Tickets are $5 each with monies going towards Music equipment. Tickets on sale now. We have had a few reports of safety issues regarding cars driving in the streets surrounding Ardtornish. Please remember speed limit around schools is 25km, and be mindful of children crossing the roads.

I first met Jill Woolley in 1985 whilst studying at Salisbury Campus – a facility that we lost some years ago. Jill and her Community Group shared the wonderful facilities there and so it was fabulous when our paths crossed again, here at APS.
Jill’s skills have been shared with many students. Some parents of the children I now teach, have their own pottery treasures created with Jill, in their time here as students as well.
Working alongside Jill with my students has been an absolute pleasure and I’ve never ceased to be amazed at the skills she imparts and the number of pieces each child has made. Of course, there are the many unseen hours behind the scenes, cleaning up slip moulds, attending to the kilns at all hours and always, always ensuring no child was ever disappointed. The occasional breakage has always been miraculously repaired behind the scenes.
Thankyou Jill for your absolute dedication. Teaching pottery to students from Reception upwards is not for the faint hearted, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you have done.

My favourite part about pottery was making my cone horse. I enjoyed learning why we had to get the air out of the clay. Alexis
I loved doing pottery with Mrs Woolley. I have made lots of things like an eagle and a cone head. The eagle was the best. Brody

Mrs Woolley has been a great teacher. She has some a long way for us, I’ve known her since Foundation. I still have the things I made that I’m proud of. This year was very sad since she is leaving. Abby
