Touchdown in Learning
The Ardtonish NFL Flag National Championship Team

Players 2023: Mikaela B, Natalie S, Liam G, Zac H, Eli Joyce, Kelly M, Ky B, Mitchell F  Cooper Field, Ben G.
Coach - Shane Hatchard, Assistant Coach - Jackson H, Team Manager - Daniel Gehling.

Amidst the electrifying atmosphere of Gold Coast Sports Precinct in Queensland, our dedicated team of students showcased grit, skill, and teamwork at the NFL Flag National Championships, securing a commendable 7th place out of 10 teams. Placing 7th in a fiercely competitive field is a testament to the resilience and determination of our students. Coach Shane's emphasis on growth took center stage as the team faced challenges head-on, learning and adapting with each game. They played their true style of free-flowing, athletic football in the final consolation game, earning another deserved win to the tally.

In the world of sports, outcomes often hinge on the smallest of details. Our team's journey at the Gold Coast Sports Precinct was no exception. If a few games had swung in our favor, the narrative might have been different. The narrow winning margins served to highlight the team's potential for even greater achievements. We know that they will transfer the skills developed in the program to future endeavors both on and off of the sporting field.
Rankings tell only part of the story. Every play, every victory, and every setback contributed to the growth of our athletes. Coach Shane is extremely proud of their dedication to before school and holiday training ever since they won the State Championship early in Term 3. They took the responsibility of representing South Australia seriously and applied themselves wholly to the upcoming challenge.
As our team reflects on the NFL Flag National Championships, there's a sense of optimism for the future. Many of the players hope to come back and help train the next group of Ardtornish students who may wish to follow this inaugural South Australian representative team to the Gold Coast in 2024. Trials will be held this year for interested year 5’s and some have already started training on the school oval at play times. The experience has definitely highlighted the allure of this newly crowned Olympic sport. Mr G will include the exciting skills in his lessons to build the game in the school’s Physical Education program, so he can continue to expand student skills throughout the school.
In the end, our team's journey from the early learning of skills on the school oval, to the professionally set up fields on The Gold Coast, exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship, growth and learning that Ardtornish students have displayed for so many years. Placing 7th is an achievement, but the lessons learned and the bonds formed are the real victories. The NFL Flag National Championships may be over for this year, but the impact of this experience will resonate with our students as they continue to strive for excellence, both on and off the sporting field.
Thank you to everyone who supported us leading up to and on The Gold Coast.
Daniel Gehling

Exciting news from Room 4 at Ardtornish Primary School!

Our students have embarked on a thrilling journey into game development, aligning with next year's Australian STEM Video Games Challenge theme, ‘Stars’. This initiative integrates STEM skills into the learning experience, offering a unique blend of education and entertainment.

Guided by Ms. Kirby, our students are crafting interactive games, tapping into their natural enthusiasm for technology. This hands-on approach not only hones technical skills but also fosters teamwork, communication, and perseverance.

We encourage parents to engage with their children about this exciting project, bridging the gap between classroom learning and home life.

We are immensely proud of Room 4's dedication to the STEM challenge, aligning with our commitment to a well-rounded education. Thank you for your continued support in nurturing our students' academic and creative development.
