  Acknowledging Our Terrific Kids

Picture

Picture

Every year KIWANIS provide our school with an opportunity to present students with Terrific Kid awards.
A Terrific Kid is a student who is thoughtful, enthusiastic, respectful, responsible, inclusive, friendly, inquisitive and capable to try their very best.

Ardtornish, staff nominated students as a Terrific Kid at each year level. We are very lucky at Ardtornish to find it difficult to narrow down the nominations to a small amount of students. It is then up to the students from each year level to vote for whom they believe should receive the Terrific Kids award.

Representatives from Kiwanis, Michael and Bob, came to our week 6 assembly and gave out the awards to the students and gave us a donation voucher for $500 towards a defibrillator. We would like to thank KIWANIS for their kind donation for our school. We would also like to thank KIWANIS for their $500 donation to our school towards a defibrillator.

Congratulations to the following students: Reception - Matisse F, Year 1 - Ryder W, Year 2 - Jasmine W, Year 3 - Lola E, Year 4 - Scarlett E, Year 5 - Ethan K, Year 6 - Emily H, Year 7 - Taj B.

Enrolment 2020

Accurate enrolment numbers are needed so we can determine the configuration of year level classes. Therefore if your family is considering moving, it is very important that you let us know, as well as your new school, as soon as possible.
Even if your plans are still tentative, letting the front office know will allow us to plan a range of contingencies.
Please inform your child’s class teacher or the front office by email [email protected] or a phone call 8264 8099 or text message to  0447 467 152.

Knockout Softball Grand Final Round

On Tuesday, November 26th, our boys and girls softball teams played at West Beach in the state knockout grand final round. Both teams played four games including a deciding game to determine final placings. Our boys team finished 3rd and our girls team finished 4th.

The girls sadly didn’t win any games, but had some very close results. All girls loved the experience of learning to play softball and coming together as a team.
The boys won 2 games, including the deciding round.  We would like to thank our coaches for coming out to all our training and games, and giving us constant support throughout the year.

Everyone had a stupendous day at West Beach. We would like to give thanks to Mr London, Mrs Hall, Mr Gehling and Mr Tagell for the amazing day.

We hope to see many new faces come out to play softball next year.

Change of School times in 2020 with a 3:00 pm finish
In 2020 the school will be adjusting its hours of operation so the school day ends at 3:00 p.m.  Our starting time will remain the same, at 8:50 a.m. but the day will finish 15 minutes earlier.
This change will bring us into alignment with other local schools and ensure that teachers are on duty for the correct times specified in their industrial award. For the past 10 years teachers at Ardtornish have been generously working an extra 15 minutes a day and a recent review of our school times highlighted this discrepancy that needs to be addressed.

Student Banking Helpers Wanted
We are looking for a couple of volunteers who would like to help process the Commonwealth Student Banking on Thursday mornings.  Bank bags are sent up from classrooms, and banking helpers process the transactions, count the money and take it to the bank. It takes about one hour, but would need to be regularly on a Thursday morning. Please check with Cathie in the front office if you would like some more information, or would like to help.

Before & After School Safety

BEFORE SCHOOL: Unless there are special circumstances or students are accompanied by a parent or attending OSHC, students should not be at school before 8:35am. Once primary students have dropped their bags at their classroom, they should go to the primary yard/playground. Junior primary students should go to the JP playground unless their teacher asks them to enter their classroom.
Any student arriving before 8:35am without a parent or carer should wait in the courtyard until the bell sounds.

AFTER SCHOOL: When the 3:30pm bell sounds students should leave the play areas unless directly supervised by a parent or carer. All students should leave the JP playground at 3:30pm as this area is required for OSHC.
Students waiting for collection by parents after 3:30pm must wait at the front of the school near the path to the office so they can be clearly seen by staff and assisted if required.

Adare Camp 2019

In Week 5, Rooms 21, 30 and 31 went on a camp to Adare House in Victor Harbor. Our large group of 79 students embarked on a 6km walk, with a playground stop, to Granite Island on day 1. We then began day 2 being split into 6 tribes to compete in activities over 2 days and win the ultimate prize – cupcakes! The Wonky Donkeys came out on top with a whopping score of 11,747 points, from 5 activities and some tribal games. The camp activities focussed on teamwork, communication and cooperation.

They included –
The Flying Kiwi, where team members are lifted 15m into the air. Beach Games, a few hours full of sand, water and fun. The Amazing Race, teams are set challenges to locate information in order to answer questions about Adare House. Brain Twister, a set of games reliant on communication as a team. Water Obstacle, an obstacle course and challenges mixed with water – what could be better? We are so grateful to the staff at Adare House and Beyond Limits who made sure we had an excellent camp experience! A special thank you also to our incredible Co-Educator and Parent helpers, Shenae, Michele, Jack, Tracey, Craig, Kim, Mary-Anne, Jenni, Hindi and Courtney – Rooms 21, 30 and 31 (and Miss Ravlich, Mrs Neller and Mr Hansen) couldn’t have made it through without your support!
