Kelly competed in the 12 Years and Under All Schools Track and Field Competition in Launceston Tasmania, from Thursday the 23rd of November to Monday the 27th of November. Leading up to the event, the South Australian team spent the weekends training at the SA Athletics Stadium with specialised coaches and began bonding as a team and making new friends. Over 700 hundred students from NSW, Queensland, Victoria, A.C.T, Tasmania and Northern Territory competed throughout the meet. Kelly finished 12th place in the boys long jump. He achieved his goal of jumping a PB (9cm further than he had previously jumped), which was a fantastic effort under competition pressure. A highlight of the meet was the experience of swapping team pins with competitors from other states. Each athlete was given 7 pins from their state to swap, providing opportunities for new friendships to be developed. Pins from smaller states such as NT, ACT and Tasmania were highly prized. Overall, being part of the State Team presented Kelly with the opportunity to set goals, develop resilience, build confidence, and make new friendships. Well done, Kelly! |
